Summary
- Oie Voaldyn, a May Day Eve festival, blends Celtic and Norse traditions.
- Shetland's Lerwick Jarls Squad brings Viking reenactment to Peel beach.
- The event features a battle between summer and winter, fire shows, and fireworks.

The Oie Voaldyn festival, celebrating May Day Eve, is set to transform Peel beach into a spectacle of ancient Celtic and Norse traditions. This year's event prominently features the Lerwick Jarls Squad from Shetland, known for their participation in the Up Helly Aa fire festival. Approximately 30 Vikings will showcase hand-crafted regalia and lead a children's costume parade.
The festivities will include a theatrical reenactment of the battle between summer and winter, brought to life by costumed performers, drummers, and fire-spinners. Traditional Manx songs will be performed by a community choir. The symbolic battle represents the triumph of summer over winter, a ritual believed to renew the land's fertility.
Following a torch-lit procession, the festival will culminate in a large fire show by the Bring The Fire Project and a fireworks display. Oie Voaldyn is designed as a family-friendly cultural experience, intended to attract visitors to the Isle of Man during the May Bank Holiday weekend. Events are scheduled to commence on Sunday, May 3rd, beginning at 13:00 BST.
