Hockey Romance Heats Up Streaming

Hockey is experiencing a significant moment in pop culture, amplified by the success of "Heated Rivalry," the 2026 Olympics, the emergence of the PWHL, and the ongoing NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. Against this backdrop, Prime Video's new 10-part series, "Off Campus," is set to premiere on May 13. This series adapts Elle Kennedy's 2015 hockey romance novel, "The Deal," and chronicles the lives of college students involved with the sport.

The show focuses on Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells in its first season, though showrunner Louisa Levy ensures the storylines of other characters, including John Logan, Dean DiLaurentis, Allie Hayes, and John Tucker, are woven into the narrative, creating a rich ensemble experience. The casting emphasized chemistry, particularly between leads Ella Bright (Hannah) and Belmont Cameli (Garrett), whose connection is central to the story. The series aims to replicate the "smutty" content of the books, a factor that made comfortable casting crucial for the actors.

Many cast members, including Ella Bright and Mika Abdalla, found deep connections with their co-stars, fostering an environment of trust and support. Bright, who plays Hannah, learned to play the guitar and piano for her role, drawing parallels to the hockey players' rigorous training. Mika Abdalla, portraying Allie, also found comfort and inspiration working with her on-screen friends. The show aims to balance its romantic and steamy elements with genuine heart and relatable characters.

While the future trajectory of "Off Campus" remains uncertain, with potential seasons exploring other book narratives like Logan and Grace's or Allie and Dean's, the casting of India Fowler as Grace has been confirmed. Jalen Thomas Brooks, who plays Tucker, indicated that future seasons would explore his character's development into a "gentle giant." The cast's strong bond, forged through shared experiences like hockey training camps and intimate gatherings, proved instrumental in creating believable on-screen relationships, especially for a show with steamy romantic themes.
