Odyssey's IMAX Reign Ends Amidst Toxic Takeover

The Odyssey has concluded its historic 40-day run in India's 34 IMAX cinemas as of August 25. The film achieved remarkable success, with nearly 50% of its total Indian box office collection of Rs. 184.23 crores coming from IMAX screens alone, amounting to approximately Rs. 90-91 crores.
Despite consistent demand and impressive occupancy rates, even on its final day in IMAX, The Odyssey has been replaced by the newly released film Toxic, starring Yash. Toxic's distributors secured all IMAX shows starting August 26, ending The Odyssey's exclusive run.
An exception exists in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where The Odyssey will continue to be screened twice daily at Broadway Cinemas' IMAX theatre. However, the film's distributors, Warner Bros., were unable to secure even a single show in most IMAX locations despite the film's proven audience draw.
Industry insiders suggest that The Odyssey could have surpassed Rs. 100 crores in IMAX collections if it had retained at least one show per screen. There's a possibility of a comeback in IMAX after a couple of weeks, but the break in momentum poses a risk.
