Odissi Dancer Achieves Doctoral Milestone

Odissi dancer Rajib Bhattacharya has achieved a significant academic milestone by completing his doctoral studies. This accomplishment represents over two decades of dedicated practice and scholarly research at Pracheen Kalakendra in Chandigarh. His doctoral thesis focuses on a detailed examination of Odissi's historical progression, specifically analyzing the distinct stylistic contributions of three eminent maestros: Guru Pankaj Charan Das, Guru Deba Prasad Das, and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Bhattacharya articulated his deep appreciation for the guidance and support he received throughout his academic journey. He specifically acknowledged his former guru, Sharmila Biswas, for instilling the philosophy that dance is more than a performance, but a disciplined and devoted way of life. He views dance as a formative influence, shaping his body, mind, and spirit, and considers it his teacher, refuge, and truth.
