Obsession: Simpsons Inspires Dark Horror

Curry Barker's latest film, Obsession, masterfully navigates the unsettling territory of consuming desires and the ensuing loss of control. The narrative draws its genesis from an unexpected source: an episode of The Simpsons featuring a wish-granting object that unleashes chaos, a concept that resonated deeply with Barker.

This inspiration fueled the film's exploration of how desire, when unchecked, can lead to dangerous consequences. Barker stated that horror as a genre is uniquely suited to examining such extreme emotions with honesty and visceral impact, making obsession a fitting subject.

Obsession blends psychological tension with an eerie, slow-burn atmosphere, focusing on emotional experience over jump scares. The film, starring Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, and Megan Lawless, is slated for release in cinemas across India on May 29, 2026.
