Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are expanding their Higher Ground production company into theater, marking their Broadway producing debut with the upcoming revival of David Auburn's "Proof." The critically acclaimed play, a winner of both a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize, will feature Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri in their Broadway debuts.
The limited 16-week engagement is slated to commence on March 31 at the Booth Theatre, with an official opening night on April 16. The production is under the direction of Tony winner Thomas Kail, who also serves as a producer alongside Mike Bosner. The Obamas expressed their pride in championing "Proof," calling it the kind of story Higher Ground was established to promote.
"Proof" centers on Catherine, the daughter of a brilliant mathematics professor, whose life is disrupted after her father's death when a significant notebook is discovered. The cast also includes Jin Ha and Samira Wiley. This theatrical venture follows Higher Ground's successful endeavors in film, television, and podcasting, which have garnered multiple prestigious awards.
