- Project captures the city's essence through music, dance, and stories.
- It reinvents a UK-based project for New York's diverse communities.

A cast of over 100 New Yorkers is creating a one-of-a-kind stage tribute to the city in Central Park. The project, which runs for five nights starting Friday, features professional artists alongside volunteers from all five boroughs.
This initiative reinvents a previous performance developed in Sunderland, UK, adapting it for New York's unique cultural landscape. The focus is on the people and community, aiming to capture their lived experiences through music, dance, and spoken word.
Workshops and surveys conducted with nearly 350 New Yorkers over the past year helped curate the stories and elements featured in the performance. Playwright Lisa Sanaye Dring collaborated to shape these narratives into a "12-track" structure, inspired by types of public records.
Local artists and collectives, including Brooklyn-based Papi Juice and musicians like Arun Ramamurthy and Louis Cato, contribute original compositions. The production explores themes of collective grief, belonging, and the city's vibrant nightlife through diverse artistic interpretations.
One track, "Nuevayol," reimagines a well-known song in Spanish, reflecting the city's multilingual population and migration stories. Another, "Marriage Certificate," highlights how shared cultural music can foster deep community bonds, celebrating diverse traditions as art.
