Brooklyn will soon witness the first-ever official Jamaican Day Parade on August 8, a significant celebration of Jamaican culture in New York City. The event, themed "Jamaica Rising: One People. The parade will commence at 9 a.m. at Bob Marley Boulevard before stepping off at 11 a.m., proceeding through Brooklyn's Little Caribbean neighborhood to Dr. Ronald McNair Park. Following the procession, a street festival and block party will feature DJs, live entertainment, and traditional Jamaican food from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This landmark event coincides with Jamaica's "Emancipendence" season and is timed to build momentum for the island's 65th anniversary of independence in 2027. Signature floats representing Cornwall, Middlesex, and Surrey counties, alongside community groups and athletes, will highlight the island's rich heritage.
