Art House Cinema Week New York has been unveiled, with the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) partnering with Art House New York. This inaugural event, scheduled to run from March 20-26, offers 5,000 free tickets to participating independent cinemas across the city.
This initiative aims to bolster the local art house film scene and make cinema more accessible. Eligible New Yorkers, including teachers, CUNY students, military personnel, people with disabilities, and SNAP/EBT cardholders, can secure advance tickets. Beyond free admission, the week includes reduced prices on screenings, concessions, and memberships.
According to MOME Commissioner Rafael Espinal, the program supports artists, audiences, and venues facing affordability challenges. Deputy Mayor Julie Su emphasized that access to arts should be a right, not a luxury. Art House New York, launched in October, works to strengthen independent film exhibition through audience development and strategic initiatives.
