Summary
- ARIAA winners compete for the $80,000 NSW Music Prize.
- Three distinct categories award $80,000 and $40,000 prizes.
- The prize aims to support local artists amid economic pressures.
The 2026 NSW Music Prize is set to feature a high-stakes competition, with ARIAA winners Ninajirachi and Boy Soda among the notable nominees for the prestigious $80,000 award. Other prominent artists like Don West, MAY-A, and Parcels are also shortlisted.
This marks the second year for the NSW Music Prize, which comprises three distinct categories. The main award recognizes the most impactful release, while the NSW First Nations music prize and NSW breakthrough artist of the year each offer $40,000. The initiative, backed by the Minns Labor government, seeks to foster emerging talent and provide a crucial boost to local artists.
Launched to counteract cost-of-living pressures and the prevalence of overseas artists on streaming platforms, the prize offers much-needed recognition and momentum. Nominations were announced on October 16, and the winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on November 9 at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art.
