The National School of Drama's Bharat Rang Mahotsav recently concluded its Pune chapter, engaging local theatre enthusiasts with three notable productions. In collaboration with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the 25th edition featured "Laila Majnun," "Babuji," and "Taj Mahal Ka Tender." The festival, running from January 27 to February 20, aims to showcase India's artistic depth and cultural diversity.
"Laila Majnun," a play rich in lyrical dialogue and aesthetics, explored themes of love, separation, and women's perspectives. Directed by former NSD director Ram Gopal Bajaj, it received a standing ovation. The opening ceremony was graced by FTII and NSD dignitaries, emphasizing the strength of collaborative artistic institutions.
"Taj Mahal Ka Tender," a satire reimagined to reflect contemporary bureaucracy, also drew a large audience. Director Chittaranjan Tripathy's adaptation humorously critiqued administrative inefficiencies. The play's enduring relevance stems from its origins in observing government red-tape, as shared by actor Ajay Kumar, who plays Shah Jahan.
