Gregg Araki has shed light on the cancellation of his 2019 erotic sci-fi series, "Now Apocalypse." Seven years after its single season aired, Araki explained that plans for a second season were fully realized behind the scenes.
The scripts for "Now Apocalypse" Season 2 were reportedly written, and the cast had been paid. The show was in pre-production when a significant shift occurred.
A change in network leadership resulted in the cancellation of the second season. Araki noted the eerie parallel between this event and a storyline within the show itself.
In Season 2, a character named Carly dealt with the cancellation of a show she was developing after her executive contact was fired. This plotline, Araki stated, became a prophetic reflection of their own experience.
"Now Apocalypse" followed disillusioned Angelenos navigating love, sex, and fame in Los Angeles, with the protagonist plagued by visions of the end of the world. The 10-episode first season was executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and Gregory Jacobs.
