- The exhibition highlights community and local figures' contributions.
Street artist Endless has unveiled "Endless Frieze," a dynamic art installation capturing the essence of Notting Hill's identity. The exhibition, part of the annual Frieze London art fair, prominently features local figures who embody the spirit of this west London neighborhood. These individuals, chosen for their significant contributions, were photographed during a live event.
The installation brings community members directly into the art world. Among those celebrated is Cheryl Devlin, a greengrocer whose family has operated a Portobello market stall for over a century, reflecting on the area's significant changes. Jama Elmi, a self-proclaimed "local icon," and Allyson Williams MBE, a key figure in Notting Hill Carnival since 1975, are also showcased.
Endless describes the work as a "freeze, a moment in time of the architecture, the buildings and the people," emphasizing the energy of the place. The live creation process, where portraits appear on the wall as soon as they are taken, introduces an element of creative risk. Karl Amata from Sound Records highlighted the need for community-gathering events like this, noting recent closures of local shops and cultural centers.
The exhibition, which also includes fashion entrepreneur Karen Millen, runs until the end of October at the Cris Contini Contemporary Gallery. Millen described Notting Hill as an "epicenter of creation."
