Library Closes Doors for Major £1.3m Overhaul
27 Apr
Summary
- Library closed for a major £1.3m refurbishment project.
- Temporary services and a small book selection available.
- New entrance, study spaces, and redesigned early years library planned.

The Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, a cornerstone of the city for 25 years, has commenced a substantial £1.3m refurbishment project. The library will remain closed until mid-July to facilitate these extensive upgrades.
During the closure, a temporary service point in The Forum will allow patrons to return and borrow items. A limited selection of books will be available, and many regular group activities will continue in the gallery area. However, study spaces and computing facilities will be inaccessible; alternative computer access is available at other Norfolk libraries.
The refurbishment aims to introduce a new main entrance, expand study spaces, and redesign the early years section. The Norfolk Heritage Centre and the Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) will also be closed, with BIPC services relocating to other libraries. This comprehensive closure ensures public safety and allows for a quicker, more cost-effective completion of the works.
