Coastal Camp Music Plans Face Rave Accusations
28 Jul
Summary
- Live music events proposed for Waxham Summer Camp.
- Council officers cite past events causing 'unofficial raves'.
- Concerns raised over noise, beach damage, and littering issues.

Organizers have sought temporary licenses for two live music events at Waxham Summer Camp on the north Norfolk coast, aiming to host up to 500 attendees. The proposed events include a DJ music day on August 8 and a world music festival on August 29.
However, environmental protection officers at North Norfolk District Council have recommended the events be refused. They assert that previous similar events exceeded their finishing times and attendee numbers, frequently leading to 'unofficial raves' on the beach. These gatherings reportedly caused damage to dunes from fires and barbecues, alongside significant littering issues.
Council officers’ reports highlight a history of poor management and insufficient noise control, creating a nuisance for local residents. Conversely, Norfolk Police have indicated no objections to the proposed events. Organizers have put forward noise mitigation measures as part of their application, while councillors are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to decide on the license approvals.
