Nordic Films Vie for Prestigious Film Prize

Six films have been nominated for the 2026 Nordic Council Film Prize, an award celebrating cinematic achievements across the Nordic countries. The nominated works include both feature films and one documentary, all of which have been distributed in cinemas.

Among the contenders are acclaimed films like Joachim Trier's "Sentimental Value" and Hlynur Pálmason's "The Love That Remains." The jury also recognized Jeanette Nordahl's "Beginnings," Búi Dam's documentary "Birita," "A Light That Never Goes Out" by Lauri-Matti Parppei, and "Kevlar Soul" directed by Maria Eriksson-Hecht.

"Birita" notably represents the Faroe Islands, aiming to amplify its distinct voice and culture within the Nordic community. The film "Kevlar Soul" delves into themes of family trauma, while "Beginnings" explores the impact of illness on a family dynamic. "A Light That Never Goes Out" is a music-driven drama from Finland that has gained international recognition.

The Nordic Council Film Prize comes with a 300,000 Danish kroner award, which will be shared among the screenwriters, directors, and producers. This distribution emphasizes the collaborative nature of filmmaking. The winners are scheduled to be announced on October 20, 2026.
