During a recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' Nolan shared his unconventional approach to technology, confirming he does not own a smartphone. He explained his concern about becoming 'horribly addicted' and how constant connectivity could disrupt the essential 'quiet, unstructured time' needed for developing film ideas.

Nolan clarified that he uses a basic flip phone for travel. To manage communication for 'The Odyssey,' a film noted for its epic scale, he relies on assistants and department heads to filter information, rather than handling it himself.

This phone-free policy is also implemented on his film sets. Actor Jon Bernthal, who stars in 'The Odyssey,' likened the focused, disconnected environment to 'church,' indicating a positive reception from the cast and crew.

The director's habit is fundamentally about protecting attention and dedicating mental space to creative work.
