Acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Erik Poppe has started production on the relationship drama "Bad Moon Rising" (working title), based on an original script by 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature winner Jon Fosse. The film, set to release in 2026, follows the story of Asle and Gerd, a couple in their early 30s living with their son in a small coastal town in Western Norway.
Initially, Asle and Gerd's relationship is perfect, but soon Asle, a sailor, feels restless and drawn to the call of the sea. This leaves Gerd alone in the village with their child, and cracks begin to appear in their once-strong bond. Poppe, known for films like "Utoya- July 22" and "Quisling," aims to capture the "unsaid" and the gradual breakdown of communication between the couple.
The lead roles of Asle and Gerd will be played by relative newcomers Leo de la Nuez and Kristi-Helene Engberg, whom Poppe has been following with interest. The dramatic setting of the Hardangerfjord and the windswept landscape of Stadlandet in Western Norway will also play a crucial role, becoming a "character in themselves" for the intimate and universal story.
