A new romantic comedy, "My Nigerian Fiancé," is set to blend Nigerian and British cultures, with its unveiling at the Cannes Film Market. The story centers on a Nigerian professional based in London who hires an Asian dancer to impersonate his fiancée during a family celebration in Lagos. This arrangement blossoms into real emotions, forcing the characters to confront familial pressures, career aspirations, and their sense of self.
Executive producers Chidozie Christian Ahaiwe and Hiu Man Chan are bringing this project to life, aiming to reinterpret a globally relatable romantic comedy through the unique lenses of Nigerian and British heritage. The film promises to incorporate Nigerian music and fashion, exploring universal themes of love, identity, migration, and cultural clashes. This initiative also stems from Chan's previous work, including a U.K. remake of a Hong Kong romance.
A13 Films, represented by Ahaiwe, is also developing "G-Boyz," an investigative documentary thriller focused on Nigeria's internet fraud economy. "My Nigerian Fiancé" is currently in development, with casting anticipated later in 2026.
