Nigerian Film 'My Father's Shadow' Earns U.K. Oscar Nod

In a significant achievement, the film "My Father's Shadow" has been selected to represent the U.K. at the 98th Academy Awards in the best international feature category. Directed by the up-and-coming filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr., the movie premiered earlier this year in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it became Nigeria's first-ever official selection.

"My Father's Shadow" is an intimate yet sweeping story that follows two young boys traveling with their estranged father from a small village in rural Nigeria to the bustling capital city of Lagos. This journey takes place against the backdrop of the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, a moment of profound political upheaval and unrest. Produced by Element Pictures, Crybaby, and Fatherland Productions, "My Father's Shadow" was shot on location in Lagos and Ibadan, Nigeria, with post-production completed in London. The film features a standout performance by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, known for his roles in "Slow Horses" and "Gangs Of London," alongside newcomers Godwin Egbo and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo.
