Summary
- Oscar winner Nicolas Cage legally adopted his stage name last year.
- He prefers to be the patriarch of his own family over Hollywood royalty.
- Cage's next projects include Spider-Noir and the film Madden.

Actor Nicolas Cage, born Nicolas Kim Coppola, legally adopted his stage name "Cage" last year. The 62-year-old star expressed a desire to be the "patriarch" of his own family rather than a distant relative within Hollywood's prominent Coppola lineage.
Cage explained his preference for a short, impactful name, likening it to James Dean. He noted that while his father gave him the French spelling of Nicolas, he is comfortable being called "Nick" or "Nicolas." This name change reflects his career-long association with the moniker, inspired by Marvel's Luke Cage and composer John Cage.
The actor's career has been largely credited as Nicolas Cage, with minor exceptions early in his career. He found the notoriety associated with his birth name challenging at times. Cage is currently involved in two upcoming projects: "Spider-Noir," now available on MGM+ and Prime Video, and the film "Madden," scheduled for theatrical release on November 26.
"Spider-Noir" features Cage as Ben Reilly/The Spider, a character he previously voiced. The series is inspired by Marvel's "Spider-Man: Noir" comics. "Madden" sees Cage portraying the late NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden.
