Report: Fake Accounts Amplify Nicki Minaj's Politics
23 Feb
Summary
- Nearly 19,000 fake accounts amplified Nicki Minaj's political posts.
- Linguistic uniformity and repetitive messaging indicated bot activity.
- Campaign goal appeared to be manufacturing fan base support.

A recent analysis of Nicki Minaj's social media activity has revealed a significant presence of bot accounts amplifying her political posts. The investigation, conducted by disinformation firm Cyabra, focused on over 55,000 profiles interacting with 51 posts between November 11 and December 22. Cyabra identified nearly 19,000 of these profiles, approximately 33 percent, as likely fake, a figure substantially higher than the seven to ten percent typically seen in organic discourse.
The report highlighted linguistic and stylistic uniformity among these allegedly fake accounts, noting that they often employed similar language and messaging to support Minaj. While some posted detailed comments, many exhibited brief, repetitive, and simplistic content aimed at scaling the appearance of support. Interestingly, toxic content associated with Minaj's posts reportedly received stronger amplification.
Cyabra's findings also indicated an overlap between accounts boosting Minaj and those amplifying content from Turning Point USA, a conservative group. While authentic accounts and influencers also supported Minaj's political content, the patterns of engagement suggested a coordinated effort to integrate fake activity into genuine conversations. The report concluded that the campaign's primary objective was not ideological, but rather to manufacture an appearance of broad public endorsement and a robust fan base for the artist.
