Actor's Son Details Homelessness After Rehab Battles

Rob Reiner's son, Nick, has opened up about his extensive battle with drug addiction, detailing 17 rehab stays and subsequent periods of homelessness. At 22, Reiner co-wrote a film, directed by his father, loosely based on these challenging experiences. He recalled sleeping on the streets for weeks in various states, including Maine, New Jersey, and Texas, after refusing to return to rehab facilities.

Reiner candidly shared that these years on the streets, though dark, were formative. He believes that surviving those experiences made him who he is today and allowed him to meet resilient people outside his usual environment. He has since been living soberly for several years, working on film projects and maintaining his recovery.

Having left his last rehabilitation facility at 19, Nick Reiner has dedicated himself to staying clean and pursuing his creative endeavors. He acknowledges the precariousness of his survival during his homeless periods, attributing his ability to overcome them to luck and a determination to not return to that way of life. He is now acclimated back to life in Los Angeles with his family.
