The compilation "Quiet Please...The New Best of Nick Lowe" offers a more complete perspective on the diverse career of the singer-songwriter. It begins with the 1974 version of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" by Brinsley Schwarz, Lowe's early band. This choice precedes Lowe's solo career and his work producing for other artists.
The collection highlights how Lowe's musical style has evolved over four decades. It demonstrates that his inclination towards a more subdued and soulful sound, evident in his recent work, was present throughout his career, as seen in tracks like "Endless Sleep" from 1977.
