Nia Long, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in films like Fatal Affair, is set to take on the challenge of portraying the legendary Katherine Jackson in the upcoming biopic Michael. Long, who was recently named a brand ambassador for Estée Lauder, says she is deeply inspired by Katherine's journey as the matriarch of the Jackson family.
"I know what it is to be a mother," says Long, who is a mother of two sons. "But I don't know what it is to raise a superstar." Despite not having the opportunity to meet Katherine, 95, in person, Long is determined to capture the essence of the woman who raised 10 children, including the iconic Michael Jackson.
The actress describes Katherine's "journey as rooted in grace" and her "spirit as strong and kind." These are the qualities that Long hopes to embody in her portrayal of the Jackson family matriarch. The biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua, will also star Colman Domingo as Joseph Jackson, Michael's father.
As the film is still in development, Long has yet to see the final product. "We are all waiting to see the film," she says, expressing her excitement and the "huge responsibility" of representing such an iconic figure. For Long, this opportunity is a "dream come true" and she feels "really, really blessed" to be a part of this project.
