According to reports, a new distribution company called Row K Entertainment has made a major splash at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. In the span of just a few days, Row K acquired the rights to several buzzworthy titles, including a reboot of the action thriller "Cliffhanger" starring Pierce Brosnan and Lily James, Gus Van Sant's drama "Dead Man's Wire" featuring Bill Skarsgård and Al Pacino, the romantic drama "Charlie Harper," and Maude Apatow's directorial debut "Poetic License."
The spending spree by Row K, which was launched in August 2025 by entertainment investment firm Media Capital Technologies, has drawn significant attention in the industry. Led by former Paramount and IMAX executives, the company is positioning itself to fill the void between big-budget studio releases and more niche independent films, focusing on "wide release, star-driven and prestige filmmaker-driven movies with global appeal."
With the acquisition of these high-profile titles, Row K is making a bold statement as a new player in the distribution market. The company's co-chair, Christopher Woodrow, has a history of raising significant funding, though his previous venture, Worldview Entertainment, faced a tumultuous end. Nevertheless, Row K appears to have the resources and the leadership team to make a serious push in the coming years, providing more options for filmmakers and audiences alike.
