In a move that is sure to delight fans of the beloved children's book series, Netflix has recently acquired the rights to a live-action "Eloise" film. The movie will star newcomer Mae Schenk as the titular character, a mischievous young girl who lives on the "tippy-top floor" of the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York City.
Joining Schenk on the cast is Ryan Reynolds, who will be playing an "original villainous character" in the film. The screenplay is being written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the acclaimed creator behind hit shows like "Gilmore Girls" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."
According to Netflix's head of feature animation and family film, Hannah Minghella, "Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza." The streaming giant has described the movie as a "wholly original adventure" based on the book series written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.
Production on the "Eloise" film is set to begin in November, with MRC overseeing the project and collaborating with the Thompson estate, illustrator Knight, and book publisher Simon & Schuster. Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, will also be involved in bringing this cherished character to life on the big screen.
