BritBox has secured the U.S. streaming rights for a new adaptation of Barbara Taylor Bradford's iconic novel, 'A Woman of Substance.' This multi-million bestseller, a rags-to-riches drama, will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK later this year. The adaptation stars Brenda Blethyn as the older Emma Harte and Jessica Reynolds as her younger counterpart.
The series follows Emma's extraordinary journey from an impoverished maid in Yorkshire in 1911 to becoming the world's wealthiest woman. This news comes shortly after the passing of Barbara Taylor Bradford in late 2024. The drama is produced by The Forge, with Katherine Jakeways and Roanne Bardsley serving as writers.
Beyond the U.S. deal negotiated by Banijay Rights, the show has also been sold to Foxtel's Binge in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, NPO in the Netherlands, Cosmote in Greece, Cellcom TV Plus in Israel, and RUV in Iceland. The successful sales effort marks the start of the London TV Screenings event this week, with over 40 distributors participating.
