Swedish production company Plattform Produktion, known for Ruben Östlund's films, is entering the television fiction market with "A Phone Rings in the Middle of the Night." This four-part psychological thriller series is a co-production with Norway's Motlys.
The project has been selected for the Berlin Co-Production Market's Co-Pro Series. It is created and directed by Mikel Cee Karlsson and is in advanced development, supported by Swedish Television and regional funds.
The series tells the story of Mats, a middle-aged drummer in a small Swedish town, who receives a disturbing anonymous text message. This escalates into a relentless campaign of terror against him and his family.
Inspired by real events, Karlsson aims to create a different kind of revenge drama. The narrative unfolds through shifting perspectives, exploring whether revenge can ever be justified and who ultimately controls the truth. The series features actors Henrik Dorsin and Shanti Roney.
