The U.S. Postal Service introduced its new Sunflowers Forever stamp on March 14, 2026. The first-day-of-issue ceremony took place at the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club's annual March Party in Strongsville, Ohio. This release highlights the sunflower's significant cultural, agricultural, and ecological contributions to America.
Illustrated by Nancy Stahl and designed by Greg Breeding, the stamp features four distinct sunflowers against a pale background. The USPS notes the stamp celebrates more than just the flower's beauty, emphasizing its role as a vital nectar source for pollinators and its use in food products and oils.
Sunflowers symbolize happiness and adoration, linked to their heliotropic behavior and sun-like appearance. They have deep historical roots, associated with ancient sun gods and Native American traditions of abundance. The plant's scientific name, Helianthus annuus, reflects these ancient connections.
This stamp continues a USPS tradition of celebrating native flora. Issued as a Forever stamp, it guarantees validity for the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate indefinitely. Customers can purchase the stamp nationwide through post offices, the USPS online store, or by phone.
