Michelle Branch and Gregg Alexander, co-writer of the 2002 hit "The Game of Love," have reunited for an uplifting duet version of the song. The track debuted on the Adult Pop Airplay chart at No. 33. A new music video accompanies the duet, marking the first clip featuring New Radicals in 28 years.
This release is part of a recent surge of activity for Alexander and New Radicals, including their first new song in decades, "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)," featured in the rom-com "One Night Only." Alexander noted that New Radicals' 1998 hit "You Get What You Give" continues to be discovered by new generations.
The "Game of Love" video is inspired by a real event in Washington Square Park where Alexander followed a man with a boombox. This rendition also aimed for greater cultural diversity, a goal Alexander wished he had achieved with the original "You Get What You Give" music video.
Branch's EP "Everywhere and Back Again" will feature reimagined hits and includes the new "Game of Love" duet. The video is dedicated to Clive Davis, who originally wanted New Radicals for the track. Alexander and Branch had planned to surprise Davis with the new duet before his passing.
New Radicals are also working on a potential sophomore album. This follows the unexpected viral success of their older songs like "Murder on the Dance Floor" and "Unwritten," which inspired Alexander and partner Danielle Brisebois to write "One Night Only."
Alexander has also reunited with co-writer Rick Nowels to pen a song referencing Kurt Cobain. He reflects on his long-standing collaborations and the deep musical connection he shares with Nowels, particularly in the wake of Clive Davis's funeral.
