New Horror Series Asks: What's Worse Than Marrying Wrong?

Upside Down Pictures, founded by the creators of Stranger Things, is set to release three new shows on Netflix this year, including the horror limited series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.

Premiering in March, the eight-episode series stars Camila Morrone as Rachel Harkin, who road-trips to her fiancé Nicky's (Adam DiMarco) family estate for their wedding. As strange occurrences escalate over five days, Rachel's paranoia intensifies, exploring the horror of becoming a wife.

Showrunner Haley Z. Boston was inspired by her own anxieties about commitment and marrying the wrong person. She cites influences such as Carrie, Rosemary's Baby, and films by Jonathan Demme, aiming to immerse the audience in Rachel's mounting dread.

The series structure and cinematography are designed to disorient viewers, reflecting Rachel's discomfort as she navigates unfamiliar family dynamics. Boston noted the character's visual resemblance to herself, with the actress modeling Rachel after the showrunner.

This project marks a new direction for Boston, who previously worked on shows like Brand New Cherry Flavor. The series delves into the concept of soulmates and the fear of making a lifelong mistake, leaving viewers to question fate versus creation.

Other projects from Upside Down Pictures include The Boroughs and the animated Stranger Things: Tales from '85, though the Duffer brothers will take on more of a mentoring role for these productions.
