2 Oct
Summary
- Richard Brener expected to move to Skydance studio.
- Brener has overseen major horror hits like Conjuring and It.
- New Line's upcoming films like The Flood and Gladys join Skydance.
Richard Brener, President and CCO of New Line and its longest-serving employee, is reportedly set to join the new Skydance studio. Sources indicate he will continue to lead New Line, which will now operate under Paramount Production Co-Chairs Dana Golberg and Josh Greenstein. This move is anticipated to finalize early next week.
Brener has been a key figure behind some of the most successful horror films, including The Conjuring franchise, Stephen King's It movies, and the Oscar-winning Weapons. Upcoming New Line projects under his purview, such as the sci-fi film The Flood and the Weapons prequel Gladys, will now fall under the Skydance umbrella. The highly anticipated Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, is also slated for release next year.
With a career at New Line dating back to 1995, Brener has a proven track record of managing talent and filmmaker relationships. His influence extends beyond horror, having previously championed successful comedies like The Wedding Singer and the Sex and the City movies. Last year, Brener oversaw hits like The Conjuring: Last Rites and Final Destination: Bloodlines, which achieved franchise box office highs.
Brener's transition occurs as other executives, including DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, also move to Skydance. Warner Bros Motion Picture Chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are departing. No other executive changes are expected at other Warner Bros labels.
