6 Mar
Summary
- Nickelodeon is developing a new animated Garfield series.
- The acquisition of Paws Inc. rights occurred nearly six years ago.
- The series will enhance Paramount+'s children's programming.

A new animated Garfield series is in development at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Executive producers Dave H. Johnson and John Trabbic III are spearheading the project. This initiative comes nearly six years after Nickelodeon, under Viacom's ownership, secured the rights to Garfield through Paws Inc. in 2019.
The acquisition granted Nickelodeon the ability to create new Garfield content across various platforms. Currently, merchandise such as "Lasagna-Yeah!" shirts and comic strip items are available at the Paramount Shop.
This new series is set to expand Paramount+'s portfolio of children's programming, joining existing hits like SpongeBob SquarePants and PAW Patrol. The platform has also recently greenlit other children's shows, further solidifying its family-friendly content.
The recent "The Garfield Movie," released in 2024, achieved a worldwide box office total of $257 million. A sequel is confirmed, with Chris Pratt reprising his voice role as the iconic cat.
