The inaugural award ceremony is slated for May 7, 2027, during the festival's opening gala. Eligibility for the first award will extend to documentaries released during the 2025 calendar year. FIPRESCI members from over 50 national sections and 30 countries will participate in the selection process, ensuring a globally representative vote.
This initiative aims to provide a critics' flagship award for documentary cinema, mirroring the existing Grand Prix for fiction films.
