Netflix will premiere "The Altruists" on November 19, a new drama inspired by the financial exploits of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison. The series chronicles their ambitious attempt to reshape the global financial system.
Accused of misappropriating $8 billion, Bankman-Fried and Ellison are depicted as Gen Z's modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. At his zenith, Bankman-Fried was a Forbes 400 figure, but his empire collapsed in November 2022 with FTX's bankruptcy.
Ellison, formerly CEO of Alameda Research, testified against Bankman-Fried following the companies' financial ruin. The eight-episode series features Julia Garner as Ellison and Anthony Boyle as Bankman-Fried, among a notable ensemble cast.
Created by Graham Moore, the series draws inspiration from New York Magazine articles. It is executive produced by a team including Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions.
