Ben Affleck's crime thriller 'Animals' has been supplanted at the top of Netflix's streaming charts by an unexpected survival drama. The film, Surviving Hurricane Otis, which recounts a harrowing true story, has claimed the No. 1 global position on the platform. Previously, 'Animals' had held the top spot since its release in October 2026.
The new chart-topper focuses on the terrifying experience of Wirpul and Candi, half-brothers stranded on a yacht in Acapulco's bay during a catastrophic storm. This narrative is directly inspired by the real-life accounts of survivors Marlon Valdez and Jonathan Chico, whose ordeal was documented by journalist Beatriz Guillén.
The actual Hurricane Otis struck Mexico's Pacific coast on October 25, 2023, resulting in a significant loss of life and numerous missing persons. Directed by Jorge Michel Grau, Surviving Hurricane Otis has captivated audiences with its intense depiction of survival against overwhelming natural forces.
