Summary
- Jinny Howe restructures Netflix UCAN scripted series division.
- Teams are now divided into genre-specific pods for better curation.
- The reorg occurred before recent Netflix layoffs and executive changes.
Jinny Howe, Head of Netflix's U.S.-Canada Scripted Series, has implemented a new divisional structure. This reorganization breaks down teams into genre-specific pods, aiming for greater depth and curation within specific content lanes. The goal is to better align projects with executives possessing relevant expertise and strong creator relationships.
This structural change was in development before recent company-wide layoffs affecting 1,000 employees and a subsequent major executive shakeup. Howe's restructuring signals her continued leadership within the company. She has been instrumental in securing popular series and major packages, reinforcing her significant role.
The Drama Development team, previously overseen by Michael Azzolino, will now be divided. Cole Galvin will lead Drama, Thriller, & YA, focusing on adult co-viewing content with a female skew. Azzolino will manage Genre, Action, & Crime, targeting a similar audience with a broader range of genres including sci-fi and horror.
Comedy Development, under Tracey Pakosta, will maintain its existing team structure with directors Brooke Kessler and Andrea Alvarado leading Commercial Comedy and Auteur-Driven strategies, respectively. Robbie Praw will continue to head Stand-up Comedy and the new Netflix Is a Joke Studio, while Billy Wee leads Adult Animation.
The Studio Scripted Series team, led by Nne Ebong, will focus on early-stage development, with Neil Thomas promoted to Director. Current programming and specialty series will remain under the leadership of Renate Radford and Nora Skinner, respectively, ensuring continued oversight of all scripted content.
