- Vincent Cassel is unrecognizable in his transformed role.
- Story focuses on class struggle, medicine, and beauty politics.
Set on the eve of the 1830 July Revolution, Netflix's "The Hunchback, Soul of Paris" presents a gritty, historically grounded take on the character believed to have inspired Victor Hugo's Quasimodo. This version shifts focus from romance to a desperate manhunt through a cholera-stricken Paris.
Vincent Cassel delivers an unrecognizable performance as Quasimodo. He is pursued by a security director and a doctor seeking him for experimental medical research in their quest for a cholera cure.
The film explores themes of class struggle, the realities of medicine, and the politics surrounding beauty. Director Jean-François Richet emphasizes a credible historical premise over strict biography for this adaptation.
