Netflix is preparing to launch a new adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel, "East of Eden," in fall. This seven-episode series features a star-studded cast, including Florence Pugh as the complex antihero Cathy Ames and Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask. The project has been in development for approximately four years.
Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of Elia Kazan who directed the iconic 1955 film, is writing and executive producing the modern interpretation. She shares co-showrunner duties with Jeb Stuart. The series, filmed across New Zealand, delves into the biblical themes of Cain and Abel and the eternal struggle between good and evil.
Other notable cast members include Mike Faist as Charles Trask and Hoon Lee as Lee. Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, and Ciaràn Hinds also star. A teaser trailer was released in May, with a fuller trailer expected soon. The series hails from co-studios Fifth Season and Anonymous Content.
