Netflix has secured the distribution rights for the highly anticipated Irish period thriller, 'Bad Bridgets.' This buzzy project, inspired by the book 'Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women,' is set to be a significant release.
Emilia Jones, known for her roles in 'CODA' and 'Task,' will lead the cast, taking over the role previously held by Daisy Edgar-Jones. The film is being produced by Margot Robbie's acclaimed LuckyChap Entertainment, adding considerable star power to the production.
Written and directed by BAFTA winner Rich Peppiatt, 'Bad Bridgets' plunges into 19th-century Ireland during a famine. It follows two sisters escaping poverty and an abusive father for America, only to find themselves causing chaos among Irish emigrant women in New York.
Filming is scheduled to commence in Northern Ireland and Ireland later in 2026. The production boasts an impressive creative team, including Oscar-winning designer James Price and costume designer Kate Hawley. Development received support from Queens University, Belfast.
