- He killed The Dama, stating it was necessary for protection.
- Morgan discussed Negan's revenge and protective instincts.
In the recent episode 'Haven,' Negan again resorted to lethal force, directly disobeying Maggie's orders. After capturing The Dama, who had previously attacked them, Negan was stopped by Maggie from killing her immediately. She insisted on imprisoning The Dama, who subsequently went on a hunger strike.
Despite Maggie offering The Dama a knife with her tuna casserole, Negan later entered the cage and killed her. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan explained that Negan felt compelled to act, believing The Dama was too dangerous to keep alive and that it was his responsibility to protect Maggie and Hershel. He also acknowledged an element of revenge, as The Dama had previously cut off Hershel's toe.
Morgan elaborated that Negan's actions stemmed from his distrust of leadership and his protective instincts towards Maggie. He believes that decisive, brutal action is sometimes necessary to ensure survival, a principle he felt Maggie had not yet fully grasped. This killing highlights Negan's complex character, balancing protection, revenge, and a pragmatic approach to survival.
