Initially, 'Nayakan,' starring Indrajith Sukumaran, received critical praise for its technical aspects and ambitious narrative but did not achieve commercial success. However, over time, its perception has shifted, and it is now widely recognized as a cult classic.
The film centers on Varadanunni, a Kathakali performer played by Indrajith Sukumaran, who enters the criminal underworld seeking vengeance for his family's murder. A notable aspect of 'Nayakan' is its distinctive fusion of Kathakali visual elements with Hollywood-style action sequences.
The rerelease presents an opportunity for both long-time admirers to appreciate the film in an enhanced format and for new viewers to discover Lijo Jose Pellissery's directorial beginnings on the big screen.
