The National Geographic Field Ready program is enhancing its focus on unscripted storytelling for its 2026 cohort, broadening its scope to encompass science, exploration, adventure, history, culture, and the natural world. This initiative, a partnership between the National Geographic Society and National Geographic Content, aims to cultivate the next generation of storytellers.
Ten participants from Brazil, Canada, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, and the United States were selected for their demonstrable experience in photography or film. The five-month program combines virtual training with an intensive in-person bootcamp in London, featuring advanced camera training and pitch sessions.
A new collaboration with Wildscreen, a global community for natural world storytellers, will enrich the program with advanced filmmaking and photography training. This partnership will also connect participants to Wildscreen's extensive network, providing enhanced learning and career opportunities.
Since its inception in 2019, 59 filmmakers from 25 countries have benefited from Field Ready. Over 60% of graduates have since worked on National Geographic productions, with notable alumni achieving Emmy awards and BAFTA recognition, underscoring the program's success in launching impactful careers.
