A remarkable full-scale replica of the Nao Victoria, the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the globe, is now docked in Dover. This historic vessel, which originally departed Seville in 1519 and completed its epic voyage in 1522, is open to the public for ten days starting Friday.
The replica Nao Victoria was constructed in Spain in 1991 and is the world's only seaworthy representation of the ship that accomplished this monumental maritime achievement. It was one of five ships initially part of the 'Spice Army' expedition, but it alone finished the circumnavigation.
Since 2007, the Nao Victoria Foundation has been responsible for managing the vessel. Its presence in Dover follows a successful visit by another tall ship, the Galeón Andalucía, last summer, which was very popular with the local community. The ship previously visited Kent in 2024 at Chatham.
