Nine Mysuru Dasara elephants were recently given a grand, traditional welcome near the Mysuru Palace, marking the beginning of their preparations. The elephants, including Dhananjaya and Lakshmi, arrived at Aranya Bhavan on August 26 and proceeded to the palace for their essential training sessions. Ministers Yathindra Siddaramaiah and Ramalinga Reddy were present to accord them a traditional Poornakumbha welcome.
Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that the final selection of the elephant that will carry the Golden Howdah would be made only after the completion of rigorous training and practice. This decision will be based on thorough assessments of each elephant's health, physical fitness, behavior, and performance. The department is committed to adhering to all rules and court directives concerning the welfare of these elephants.
During their entry into the palace premises, elephant Srirama showed brief agitation due to the noise, but its mahouts quickly brought it under control. All Dasara elephants are scheduled for weight tests this Sunday. The arrival of the elephants, accompanied by traditional art troupes and a police band, attracted a large crowd, adding vibrancy to the city's Dasara preparations.
