Summary
- Former minister Tanveer Sait expresses concern over decline of traditional arts
- Parents' obsession with English, professions like medicine and engineering hinder artistic careers
- Handicraft and fine arts competition held as part of Mysuru Dasara festival

On September 26th, 2025, former minister and Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait expressed disappointment over the declining state of traditional arts in Mysuru. Speaking at the inauguration of the Mysuru Dasara art fair, Sait stated that parents' obsession with the English language and their strong desire to see their children become doctors or engineers have posed significant challenges for those pursuing careers in the arts.
The event, organized by the subcommittee for fine arts and handicrafts, featured an award ceremony for winners of a national handicraft and fine arts competition. Sait noted that while the use of machinery in the production of various items is widespread, no machine can match the craftsmanship of human hands. He remarked that many art forms are vanishing and there are numerous obstacles to reviving them.
Sait emphasized that activities like crafting beautiful shapes from stone, creating clay artworks, and preparing sculptures are not easy tasks. However, he observed that today's children are deprived of physical activities and are often engrossed in their phones, further contributing to the decline of traditional arts.
