Oscar & Hot 100: Only 17 Songs Ever Did It!
10 Mar
Summary
- Only 17 songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100 and won an Oscar.
- The song 'Shallow' was the last to achieve this double distinction.
- The 1970s and 1980s saw more songs achieve this rare feat.

The upcoming Academy Awards may see "Golden" from KPop Demon Hunters join a very exclusive club. This song is nominated for best original song and previously topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks. If it wins, it will become the 18th song ever to achieve the dual distinction of topping the Hot 100 and winning an Oscar.
The last song to achieve this was "Shallow" from A Star Is Born seven years ago. The Motion Picture Academy has awarded best original song since 1935, while Billboard's Hot 100 began in 1958. B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" was the first song to accomplish this feat.
While the 1970s and 1980s were particularly fruitful for songs hitting both milestones, the trend has declined significantly since the 1990s. Only a handful of songs have managed this double victory in the decades since, highlighting its rarity.
