The Vatican has appointed Msgr. Stephen Fernandes as the new auxiliary bishop of Bombay. This significant ecclesiastical event took place recently at Our Lady of Salvation Church, located in Dadar. Bishop Fernandes's prior role was at the apostolic nunciature in New Delhi, where he also resided at the CBCI Centre.
Born on September 21, 1961, Bishop Fernandes pursued degrees in Commerce and B.Ed. from the University of Mumbai. His priestly formation was completed at St Pius Seminary in Goregaon, and he was ordained a priest on March 31, 1990. He also serves as the theological counsellor for the Catholic Medical Guild of St Luke in Mumbai.
The ordination ceremony was a notable occasion, presided over by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the apostolic nuncio to India. Also present were Archbishop John Rodrigues of Bombay, alongside other representatives from the Vatican and approximately 30 senior bishops and archbishops.
