Mumbai's art scene is celebrating the unveiling of Nandita Desai's fifth solo exhibition, "The Painted Window." Hosted at the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery in Nariman Point, the exhibition features an impressive collection of nearly 50 artworks. These pieces are distinguished by their use of vintage and handcrafted window frames, many salvaged from demolished or forgotten homes.
The exhibition delves into the multifaceted concept of windows as metaphors for memory, reflection, and the connections between people. Desai's artistic approach involves transforming these reclaimed frames, often using repurposed wood, imbuing each artwork with a sense of history and quiet intimacy. The show is on display until March 21st.
Nawaz Modi Singhania and IAS officer Nidhi Choudhari inaugurated the event, drawing a crowd of artists, collectors, and cultural enthusiasts. Singhania reflected on Desai's talent, noting her engaging teaching style from their college days. Choudhari highlighted the universal symbolism of windows as silent observers of life's intimate moments, emphasizing the relatable simplicity of the windows used in Desai's art.
